Sage Tyner

Mixed Media

Sage Tyner (b. 1996) is an Illinois native, born in Naperville and currently living in Oswego. They began seriously creating art on a regular basis only recently, in January of 2021, inspired by an older sister, who is also an artist. Although Sage began with watercolor, they work largely with acrylic paint and some gouache.

Tyner describes each paintings as trying to speak to an emotion noting that as someone who deals with a “flat effect” they are intrigued by expressive faces and grand displays of passion. They initially chose unnatural palettes for paintings to make up for relative inexperience with creating realistic skin-tones but they have taken up the use of complimentary colors as a part of their signature style. Tyner's use of color and texture serve to create a sense of depth in their artwork.

Sage joined Project Onward in November of 2021 and wants to work on developing even more skill along with the community of artists in the studio. They describe their artwork as being a true source of confidence, pride, and growing joy.

When away from Project Onward, Sage loves roller skating, training their dog, Chimichanga, and people watching.
