Safiya Hameed

Painting

Safiya Hameed (b. 1989) joined studio in 2008. She is a lifelong Chicagoan, residing with her family in the Bronzeville neighborhood. Safiya is a graduate of King College Prep, and is described by her mother as “grateful, persevering, and loving.”

Safiya’s distinct style of work caught the eye of Mrs. Maggie Daley. Mrs. Daley commissioned Safiya for several pieces and remained a steadfast supporter until her passing in 2011.

Safiya's whimsical, mixed media drawings and paintings are filled with bright, beautiful colors and patterns. Her subjects include flowers and plants, clouds and skies, butterflies, smiling sunrises, princesses, rainbows, and hearts.

Safiya also loves to sing and dance.

You will know when Safiya is in session, as her presence and personality infuses the Project Onward studio with a sense of delightful exuberance. Fellow artists and staff members referring to her as “The Princess of Project Onward.”
