Lois Weisberg 1925 – 2016

The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, artists and friends of Project Onward mourn the loss of cultural icon Lois Weisberg.  She died on January 13 in her home in Florida. Among her many gifts to the people of Chicago, the founding of Project Onward, while not the grandest in size or visibility, was perhaps her most profound.

Lois knew well that by creating Project Onward in 2004, she was venturing into uncharted territory.  She understood that few programs existed for adults with autism and other mental and developmental conditions; she also understood that there none for artists with extraordinary ability.  And yet she persisted – and being Lois – prevailed and triumphed.

Thus, to the program’s eight original and talented artists, and to more than 50 since, Lois was heaven sent.  Even in passing, Lois expressed care and concern for challenged artists asking that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to Project Onward.

Every day of her life, Lois Weisberg was cherished and loved; in passing she is loved no less and is already sorely missed.
