Michael Sheppard (b. 1954) works very much in the folk art tradition, using found materials and whatever art supplies are handy at home. His work features series of everyday objects and articles of clothing: hats, gloves, men’s shoes, and—especially—ladies’ shoes.

Drawing and painting on pieces of paper that are sometimes glued together, Sheppard makes carefully assembled images to fit into dime store frames. With dozens of images in identical frames, he has created his own museum of footwear and millinery. Sheppard joined Project Onward in 2012.
