Project Onward selects artists for the studio program by recruitment and referral from sister agencies, including Gallery 37, social service programs, and art therapy sites. Artists are also recruited or referred from gallerists, dealers, or curators familiar with our work. Applicants must be over 18 years of age, with a documented developmental and/or mental disability, and should have experience of personal art making (i.e., artwork created spontaneously and apart from art class assignments, school projects, etc.). Emphasis is on self-taught artists with a singular vision and a desire for further artistic growth. Individuals with mental illness must be under the care of a mental health provider, and are expected to follow the course of treatment specified by their care provider.
