Our primary means of initiating contact between our artists and the public is the Portrait Project, in which visitors to the Project Onward gallery can sit for a portrait with an artist. A live portrait sitting is a social as well as artistic interaction, providing a safe, meaningful forum for communication between people who would otherwise never come into contact with one another. Although the world is far more accessible than it used to be, opportunities for socializing with members of the general public are rare for adults with disabilities; rarer still are situations where people with special needs have a valued social role. Likewise, members of the mainstream public don’t often encounter social situations with people with disabilities, even though many desire to make such a connection.
Three ways to get your portrait drawn:
WALK-IN
Ask which artists are available, choose your favorite, and leave with an original piece of art
